RACE’S HIP HOP NUTCRACKER project director

approximately 5 month contract: August - December 2025

Scope of Work
Seeking a project director with strong project management and leadership skills to oversee the restaging of previous adaptations of the annual performance. This role is expected to cast dancers into appropriate roles and, if time and financial resources allow, create new works, provided they align with the show’s narrative. The director will be responsible for scheduling company rehearsals, managing relationships between participating high school programs and their choreographers, ensuring artistic cohesion and fostering collaboration. Ideal candidates should be able to visit each participating school at least once a month to support project alignment and relationship-building. 

The director will work closely with the Academy Director on artistic content and the executive director on community relations, scheduling project activities, and ensuring the project stays within an allocated budget. Additional responsibilities may include administering exit interviews with company dancers and attending community events as needed for marketing and promotional efforts of the event.

Candidates should have experience in dance direction, production management, or a related field, with a proven ability to oversee large-scale, multi-school productions. The ideal candidate must possess strong communication, artistic leadership, collaboration and production skills to fulfill the artistic vision of the show.

Timeline
This is a contract position running from August-December, with an expected commitment of 10 rehearsal hours/week, plus additional hours for auditions, rehearsal preparation and visiting participating school sites. Compensation is a monthly rate of $300, and travel expenses for school visits are not covered at this time.

the racey show project director

Scope of Work
Seeking an innovative project director for a cabaret-style production that promotes body, gender, and identity inclusivity, empowering both dancers and audiences to feel confident in their own skin. The Project Director will curate repertory of their own original works, as well as select additional choreographers from within the collective with varied backgrounds and styles to develop dancers into versatile artists, and craft a 90-120 min full-length performance. The director is responsible for scheduling company rehearsals, and works collaboratively with the executive director on scheduling project activities, and ensuring the project stays within an allocated budget. Additional responsibilities may include administering exit interviews with company dancers and attending community events as needed for marketing and promotional efforts of the event.  

Candidates should have experience in directing or producing dance performances, with a proven ability to create inclusive, artistically rich productions. The ideal candidate must possess strong communication, artistic leadership, collaboration and production skills to fulfill the artistic vision of the show.

Timeline
This contract position runs from January-March or April requiring a commitment of 10 rehearsal hours/week, plus additional hours for auditions and rehearsal preparation. Compensation is a monthly rate at $300, and travel expenses are not covered.

Scope of Work
An innovative project director is sought to guide a performance that uses dance as a powerful medium for social commentary, engaging the community and educating them about pressing social issues. RACE is dedicated to creating works of social significance, showing commitment to fostering a culture of informed empathy and action. The Project Director will curate repertory of their own original works, as well as select additional choreographers from within the collective with varied backgrounds and styles to develop dancers into versatile artists, and craft a 90-120 min full-length performance.

In collaboration with the executive director, this role will build on existing relationships with guest artists and collaborators and actively pursue new partnerships to enhance the project's artistic merit. Responsibilities include scheduling company rehearsals, coordinating schedules with guest artists (if applicable), and working collaboratively with the executive director on scheduling project activities, ensuring the project stays within an allocated budget. Additional responsibilities may include administering exit interviews with company dancers and attending community events as needed for marketing and promotional efforts of the event.

Candidates should have experience in dance direction, production, or a related field, with a demonstrated ability to lead socially conscious, artistically compelling productions. The ideal candidate must possess strong communication, artistic leadership, collaboration and production skills to fulfill the artistic vision of the show.
